Axel Schaeffler's cardboard picture book illustrations are well-liked by children and adults alike with bright colors, clear lines, and rich detail. The inspiration for his cardboard picture book not only comes from the story itself, but also from his daily life.

He first used a pencil to outline the outline of the cardboard picture book, then used an ink pen to highlight the lines, and then filled in with watercolors and crayons, so the cardboard picture book was rich in layers, lively and vivid, creating an immersive effect.
